Prabhat Rao

 

Prabhat was born in India on 9th Sept 1989 and holds B. Eng (Hons) degree, in Electronics and Computer Engg, from King’s College, London. He works, in London, for M/S John Lewis,as a System Analyst.

From a very young age, Prabhat has been keenly interested in classical music and music technology. His first public vocal performance in Carnatic Music was at the age of 7, in Chennai. Vocal and keyboard Music of different genres - learning, performance and sharing - continued through the intervening years at Bhopal, Bangalore and now in London.


Prabhat can sing and support himself admirably on keyboard, in different styles and is also an amateur Music Recorder and Arranger.

Supported in his musical journey by his parents, Commander Rao and Sarala, he has evolved to be a very passionate student of Indian Music. He is presently, a student of Mrs. Chandrima Misra, a well known Hindustani vocalist of the Patiala Gharana at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London.

Prabhat has performed a various venues in London including the Southbank Centre, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Winston Churchill Hall, apart from previous performances in Bangalore, Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Fluent in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada Tamil and English languages, he had also pursued Western Classical Music and holds a merit certification in keyboard from Trinity College of Music, London.

Prabhat has produced an Audio CD ‘Dwaraka’- a compilation of devotional songs on Lord Krishna. He piloted the release of this audio CD by singing and arranging the music along with his guru Smt. Kavitha Aarudra of Bangalore. The funds generated from this CD are now being used by the Hemophilia Federation to support their patients in India.

Prabhat recognizes that Music is divine and strongly believes in sharing his music with others. He considers himself very fortunate to be involved in doing seva for Chinmaya Mission, London – a noble path for his musical quest.

Prabhat is currently a leading member of Chinmaya Swaranjali in London and runs their classes and Bhajan Satsangs. He has had the privilege of performing for fund raising classical concerts for Chinmaya Mission in London and Singapore, as well as, at many other Spiritual forums in London.

In 2003, Prabhat received the Virtuoso Award for Vocal and Instrumental Music from ‘Carnatica’- a Chennai based organization and also ‘The Mangharam Award for Excellence-2004’,from his Alma Mater, Mallya Aditi International School Bangalore.He is also the recipient of Croydon Music Festival(London) Trophy for 2009 and has been adjudged as a distinguished Hindustani Vocalist.
